Fall 2008 Season.
This season looks big. Of course it always looks big. But I end up watching only 3 shows.
But I figure I should compile my list of what I want to see
ef ~tale of melodies~: The first series pretty much wowed me (ef ~tale of memories~ for those who weren’t paying attention). It’s very much because I love the atmosphere of the series (which is both light, dark, and bleak) and feelings of the series (which are very much related to how people feel about what they do with their lives). Anyway this second series is covering the remaining stories (Yu and Yuuko, Mizuki and Kuze). And I look forward to hearing the music of ef (because I loved the opening and all the inserts)
Gundam 00 second season: Because the only other Gundam series I have watched is Gundam Wing, I can’t say I can really follow anyone who says “Gundam 00 isnt’ a good Gundam series”. But I really don’t care. The first part of Gundam 00 was mixed but fun ride for me. I liked the setting and the look of the technology, and the characters. But the character focus annoyed me cause it never really got past talking about the character’s ideals…..and they ever ever devoted enough time to my beloved Soma and Sergei
. The new begins with a timeskip and the slightly new look of the characters is meant to reflect how much older they are (it’s not a 2 year it’s a 8 year skip). Im kind of excited and I think it’s fun to follow Gundam 00-.
Toradora!: An anime of a novel which also became a manga. First of all I love the manga, and the character interactions (whilst not original) are very entertaining. Some of the novel has also been translated. Anyway overall Im alittle worried about the anime because of two reasons
1. JC. Staff is in charge of it and they have a tendency to screw things up. But I do admit I have watched some of their stuff and have been entertained and Im trying to follow Nabari no Ou.
2. The character designs look ackward. However proven in the past with my experience with Kure-nai, awkward character designs are not everything to a series. Infact I deserve to be smacked cause the character art of Kure-nai was actually good.
I will try it.
Shikabane Hime: A manga adaptation from Gainax. I am actually not following this because of Gainax’s involvement (there are probably 3 others like me). The plot is simple. I’ve read a chapter of the manga and I like the look of it. I hear there is going to a second season done by a different studio (similar to what Minami-ke did).
Chaos;head: Based off a visual novel by 5pb and Nitro+ (I’ll mention again that I love Nitro+). I found out about Chaos;head (the original visual novel) through my interest in Nitro+, and I’ve heard some mixed things about the story (particularly some negative things about the protagonist). This is being done by Madhouse which I think is cool (even though Madhouse anime can be either good or bad). The original promo art left some odd feelings. But then some actual shots of the anime (1, 2) cleared everything up (it looks nice)
Kannagi: This will be followed for a multitude of reasons. I will be watching it because I’ve been following the manga, and it’s a laidback comedy with odd interaction. The trailer was particularly interesting cause unlike most comedy anime trailers (that have the opening theme song and the heroine(s) chatting) this one had a some entrancing music which confused me in a good way.
Casshern SINs: The retro show. A remake of a 1975 anime based off a manga (there’s also a live action film, which I foolishly didn’t think was related). The trailer had some great colors and some nice dark music.
Stuff I might consider watching
Kurozuka: I will watch maybe one episode of this, I decided to check out the manga (when I found out the story dealt with immortality). After nine chapters I’ve found the story is dark and confusing. So a anime could go either way, considering that the manga has finished, and it’s by Madhouse.
Ga-rei ZERO: I was intrigued by this. So I checked out the manga, I found that the manga was just OK. Then I found out that the anime will be a prequel to manga which makes me alittle hesistant to watch this (because the manga’s material doesn’t have too much for a prequel). The Promo image intrigues me for some reason (maybe it’s the colors again)
Kemeko Deluxe: Looks to be random cuteness. Could go the same way Kyouran went (ie. bad mixing of drama and comedy) I’ll just hope not.
Yozakura Quarter: Demian here wrote a review of the manga. I skimmed abit of the manga, but I probably should read it more to soldify my feelings on it.
Akane Iro ni Somara Saka: The amount of well-known seiyu involved is pretty impressive (much like Kimikiss’s cast). Otherwise it looks fun
Clannad – After Story: My feelings on Kyoto animation go two ways. Part of me dislikes how goddamn popular they are (Haruhi and Lucky Star are a bit too popular IMHO). Another part of me respects them alittle for doing some decent visual novel adaptatons, let me emphasize decent (as opposed to “good’ or “great”. I’ve watched Kanon. Semi-watched AIR. Watched Clannad. And I’ve never been truly amazed. Sure they have good quality animation, but so do other things made by other studios. Overall, I will probably watch After Story, but not make a huge attempt to keep up with it (I will keep up with ef though)
Hyakko: Originally a web manga. Truth be told. I don’t know why Im interested in this. But it doesn’t look horrible.

Meh. I didn’t really watch Lucky Star. Not that I dislike it or anything.
That wouldn’t stop me from looking at the OVA sometime though.
