Code Geass R2 02 - revelations galore

Well once again the 2nd episode of R2 somewhat reflected the beginning of the first season, however the revelations here pretty much made that ignorable…

So from Karen we get the first part of what happened at the end of the first season. So Suzaku did manage to beat Lelouch. Avoiding Lelouch’s shot, throwing away the sakuradite bomb and kicking him down. Karen made the smart move of running away. Cause if you see a guy who can avoid bullets……what can you do?

So then we get the revelation of Norio Wakam-The Emperor’s Geass. So he can rewrite memories….what a bastard. Lelouch’s apparent “normality” was caused by the Emperor’s rewriting of his memories. Also in this scene is a example how far Suzaku has drifted from his usual passionate/idealistic self. He openly admits that he his trading Lelouch for power. And the Emperor grants him a position in the Knights of Rounds.

Then we get a really emotional scene with Lelouch struggling against Suzaku tying to avoid the Emperor’s Geass as all his memories are taken away. No kidding I felt for Lelouch here.

From here we get the normal run down of Lelouch commanding the Black Knights to destroy Brittanian army around the Tower.

Even more interesting was the conversation between Lelouch and Karen in which Karen reveals her confusion over if her feelings of admiration for Zero are true or are fabrications due Geass. This is good solidification of Karen’s character. I mean one of the themes of Code Geass is sort of how some of the characters hide their true selfs (so the theme would be “sense of self”). And Karen shows that she’s very protective of who she is. And so Lelouch reassures her that her feelings are true. Karen then sort of states that she sees Lelouch and Zero as two different people (once again tying into the theme). Lelouch then proceeds to comment on the state of her body’s (ie. the bunny garu costume) which she gets embarassed to (much like in episode 3 of R1).

Nice costume….

Here’s where we laugh

Black Knights are then attacked by the Vincent (Lancelot based mass production Knightmare) which beats most them (like episode 2). Urabe (one of the Shiseiken. Tohdo’s original unit) sacrifices himself to halt the Vincent from getting to Lelouch. This gives Lelouch time to blow the middle of building, with explosives (planted by C.C.). One thing people have commented on is that Lelouch is becoming more caring to his comrades. I couldn’t agree more, with commenting on how Urabe’s death was not in vain along with his conversation with Karen, he is definitely not showing them to be just pawns.

In a nice “before ending” sequence. Lelouch puts on his Zero attire and proclaims to all of Japan that he has returned. During this we see: Diethard, Lacksharta, and Sayoko are indeed alive (yay), Nina looking crazy, Suzaku with his fellow Knights (and Zino voiced by Souichiro Hoshi and Anya voiced by Yuko Goto) and then also Kaguya with that moe smile. Zero has also shown to have a formed allicance with Gaohai (the Chinese Federation amabassador) and has made the current HQ of the Black Knights the Chinese Embassy. We also see that Li here shows some fascination with Zero. And it appears the “alliance” was the good influence of Geass on Gaohai.

Last part of the episode shows that the Vincent was being piloted by Rolo and that he has come to the embassy to kill Zero.

Derange from Deranged Minds puts it well. This episode was awesome. Now the big question at the end is “what is Rolo’s Geass?” as he is shown to have it. Shirukii in his post stated what is most likely. A form of mental blanking that removes him from a person’s sight, the activation method for his geass (Lelouch’s being eyesight, Mao’s being constant) if confusing considering that he can use it through his Knightmare.

At first I thought his Geass would be similar to Lelouch’s (absolute commands) because he could use it on Li, from there Li would try to kill Lelouch but get stopped (by C.C.) and then Li would be familiar with Geass…..yeah my mind travels far.

Next episode could be a “what happened before the Incident at Babel tower” because it shows Rolo and Lelouch at school. And in his current situation I don’t see Lelouch going back to school while leading a rebellion whilst the enemy suspects/knows that he is Zero.

And of course……

Yeah I know there were alot of shots of C.C. in a Knightmare…But I liked this shot of her face.

Of course this shot is also nice…

Now to wait for her to get into her black dress clothes (seen in the OP)
